The Emperor’s Purple Clothes

Once upon a time there lived a cruel Emperor who hated purple.  He decreed that anyone found wearing the grape color would be beaten until he was black and blue.  For many years, nobody dared to defy the Emperor for fear of the law, until one day a small child reminded the Emperor that anyone beaten until black and blue would eventually turn purple until fully healed.  Not to be outdone, the Emperor immediately had the documents drawn up replacing the punishment with beheading.

Many years passed and the Emperor was bored.  He longed for a change when he suddenly had a plum of an idea!  He sent for the finest tailor in all the land to make him a suit of clothes befitting a man of his grape importance.  As luck would have it, the finest tailor in all the land’s name was Amethyst.  She was, indeed a talented and most crafty soul.

The Emperor was quite taken with her and vowed to give her anything she desired in order for her to make him the most beautiful suit of clothes ever worn by an Emperor.  Amethyst worked day and night spinning threads and sewing cloths until one day the Emperor’s grapest suit of clothes was ready.

The Emperor was a man who loved surprises and so he was exceedingly pleased when Amethyst asked him to dress with his eyes closed until the unveiling.  With breathless anticipation, the Emperor carefully dressed and presented himself to his court in front of Amethyst and all the royal guards.

Amethyst asked the Emperor to step in front of the partition to present himself. As the guards es courted the Emperor, eyes closed tightly, into view, there were gasps from all those in attendance.  No one quite knew what to say, but Amethyst did.  She oohed and aahed loudly and declared she had never seen such a handsome and distinguished man in all her days.  She added that he was really PLUMthing special.  The attendees saw no alternative but to follow Amethyst’s grape lead and began to ooh and ahh along with her.

Finally Amethyst told the Emperor to open his eyes and look into the large, ornate and golden mirror place in front of him.  He was so grapely influenced by the grape compliments he had been receiving all the way down the aisle that when he saw is own reflection, he was blinded by pride.  He felt incredibly powerful and almost dazzling.  He was so grapeful to Amethyst for this was the first time anyone had ever made such a grape fuss over his appearance that he instantly fell in love with her.

Amethyst and the Emperor were married at once and the law against purple was revoked.  In its place was a new law which stated that purple was now the official color of the kingdom and, as such, his subjects were expected to own a suit of purple clothes of their own.  The palace was painted a lovely shade of lavender and the royal gardener’s planted eggplant all along the mote.

Amethyst and the Emperor soon had a daughter they named Violet.  And they lived a long and grape life together.

Grapielocks and the Three Purple Bears

Once upon a time, there were three purple bears, the Momma Bear, the Papa Bear and little Grapie Bear.  One morning they were all set to eat their blueberry porridge when Papa Bear declared, “My blueberry porridge is too hot.  Then Momma Bear said, “My blueberry porridge is too hot.  Finally, Grapie Bear said, “My blueberry porridge is too hot, too!”  So they all decided to take a walk in the Violet Forest until their blueberry porridge cooled off.

While they were in the Violet Forest, Grapielocks came wandering by.  She noticed their purple door was open and thought it a grape idea to sit a spell. She noticed the blueberry porridge and tried each one.  Papa Bear’s blueberry porridge was too hot. Momma Bear’s blueberry porridge was too cold, but Grapie Bear’s blueberry porridge was just right…so she ate it all up.

Next Grapielocks got tired so she decided to sit down.  She sat in Papa Bear’s magenta colored chair, but it was too big.  She sat in Momma Bear’s lavender chair, but it was still too big.  So she sat in Grapie Bears little mauve chair and it seemed just right…until she broke it!  After all, it was meant for little Grapie Bears!

Then Grapielocks got very sleepy, but Papa Bear’s purple cow-shaped bed was too hard and Mama Bear’s eggplant shaped bed was too soft.  But Grapielocks found that Grapie Bear’s bed was just grape so she fell asleep in it.

When the three purple bears returned home, they found things weren’t just grape!  Papa Bear noticed that someone had been eating all their blueberry porridge. Momma Bear found that someone had been sitting in their purple chairs and Grapie Bear yelled, “Someone’s eaten all my blueberry porridge, broken my mauve chair and there she is sleeping in my grape bed!

Well, Grapielocks woke up from dreaming about lilacs to find the three purple bears standing over her angry about the unpurple-icious nature of plumbody being in their grape home!  She ran out the purple door as fast as her amethyst shoes could carry her without even so much as a thank you!

The moral of this grape story is that you should never leave your purple door unlocked or you just might have an encounter of the very ungrapeful kind!

The Green Young Man and the Grape Young Lady

Once upon a time, there lived a grape girl who was in her second year of college.  She had pledged Sigma Kappa the year before and loved wearing her lavender sorority t-shirts.  Her first sorority meeting of the year had a scheduled visit by the Lambda Chi Fraternity.  A sea of green jackets sang to them songs of  sweet silliness.  The girl didn’t like the way she looked in her glasses, so before the guys came into the room, she took them off.  Unfortunately during the serenade, she couldn’t see any of the faces wearing the green jackets or the pledges who were waiting to get theirs.

On her first day of psychology class, she met a polite young man.  He thought she was pretty grape too and they began talking.  When class started, the professor noticed the affection the young man was paying the grape young lady and began calling him Romeo.  After class they would frequently be seen together on campus talking about life.  That next semester, after his initiation ceremony, the young man was wearing his green jacket.

As time went by, they fell in love and five years later after college graduation, the green young man and the grape young lady wed.  Her bridesmaids wore lavender and some of them who had worn sorority lavender in college sang to them both as they began their lives together.

A few years later, the green man and grape lady welcomed a daughter and nine years later a son.  They decorated their home in green and purple hues and spent many years enjoying blessings and enduring hardships.  A few years ago, they had to say goodbye to their daughter as she left for college and then again when she left to be a Russian exchange student for a semester.

Today is the anniversary of the day the green man and the grape lady began their life together.  Can you guess how many years their colors have been intertwined?

Plumeria, The Princess of Purple

The Story of Plumeria, The Princess of Purple

Oh I had such fun writing this that I decided to make it an audio and so as not to be outdone by anything I’d previously recorded, I thought I’d add sound effects.  This is my first attempt and I did it all by myself so there are some pregnant purple pauses whilst I was trying to coordinate all the sound effects and keep my place in the story!  LOL

A few friends told me the pauses weren’t too bad so I’m posting it here for your purple listening pleasure.

I’ll be re recording it and putting it up on the home page as a permanent link to introduce folks to For the Love of Purple.com.  For right now, I would love a little feedback!  Feel free to say you LOVE IT! LOL

Here goes!  The Story of Plumeria, The Princess of Purple!

I wasn’t very satisfied with the way the recording came out.  It took me several tries to get it this good because I was a one purple man show.  I had to cue the sounds and read the script as well as work the recording.  I think I might make a video of it instead. What do you think?  I’d love your thoughts.  Please share and have a GRAPE day!

Little Purple Riding Hood

Okay folks. Last week’s Purple-ized Story was the Itsy Purple Spider.  How do you like it as compared with this week’s Little Purple Riding Hood?

Once upon a time there was a sweet little girl whom everyone called Little Purple Riding Hood because she always wore a purple cape with a hood.   One day, Little Purple Riding Hood was walking through the woods with a basket of grapes and plums to give to her grandmother who was feeling poorly.  She had Graype’s Disease.

She spotted a patch of violets and decided to pick them to bring to her grandmother.  Carefully, she plucked them and put them into her lavender basket.  All at once, the big, bad, purple finch came swooping down and frightened poor Little Purple Riding Hood.

“Where are you going, little purple girl?” the purple finch asked her with an evil grin.

“To my grandmother’s house to take her some grapes, plums and these pretty violets.” Little Purple Riding Hood replied.

“How far away does she live?” the purple finch asked.

“Just over that purple mountain’s majesty in the second house with the eggplant colored trim.” Little Purple Riding Hood told him.

“Have a grape day!” the purple finch screeched as he flew off.

Later on, Little Purple Riding Hood arrived at her grandmother’s house and went in to the bedroom to share her grapes and plums. Little did she know, but the purple finch had found Grandmother’s house empty and decided to play a trick on Little Purple Riding Hood.  He got dressed in Grandmother’s bed clothes and got into her grape big bed.

“Why Grandmother!  What big purple eyes you have!” Little Purple Riding Hood exclaimed.

“The better to see you with, my dear!” said the purple finch.

“Why Grandmother!  What big purple ears you have!” Little Purple Riding Hood yelled.

“The better to hear you with, my dear!” said the purple finch.

“Why Grandmother!  What a big purple beak you have!” Little Purple Riding Hood said with a sly smile.

“The better to eat you with, my dear!” said the purple finch as he got up from the grape big bed.

But no sooner had the purple finch done so, than Grandmother walked in with the woodcutter from down the street.  He was carrying a lilac wooden bird cage with the little door open.  The purple finch didn’t see where he was flying and he flew right on into the lilac cage.

Everyone at Grandmother’s cozy little cottage cheered…except the purple finch.  Grandmother thanked the woodcutter for saving Little Purple Riding Hood and her money.  You see, that purple finch had been such a nuisance.  He regularly flew into Grandmother’s house when Grandmother wasn’t at home and ran up her Fox Cable bill watching Pay Per Flew!  Grandmother was so grapeful that she asked the woodcutter to stay for dinner and help her eat the grapes and plums Little Purple Riding Hood had brought her through the woods.

And they all lived purpley ever after!

New Purple Project Series: Purple-ized Story Videos

When I first started this blog, I spent a year on The Purple Project where I turned ordinary UNpurple things into grape things.   I did some with purple dye, some with sewing, some with buttons, some with applique and some with paints.  Now begins a new For the Love of Purple Era!

In my “day job,” I’ve been creating a lot of YouTube videos for Art of Eloquence.  Not being a techie, it’s been a huge learning curve, but I’m getting pretty good at it.  So I thought I’d try my hand at some grape new videos based on some of the Purple-ized Stories I’ve been writing here on the blog.  So over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing some of my purple-ized stories with you.  I’d love your feedback on them and then at the end of these few weeks, I’ll ask you all to rate them from first to last with number one being the one you think I should make into a Purple Video first.  Here is my very first Purple-ized Story.

The Itsy Purple Spider

The Itsy Purple Spider went up the violet stem

Came a purple finch that pushed him down again

He spilled some grape juice on him and pushed him in the door

Now the Itsy Purple Spider was purple all the more

In Other Grape News…

My life is getting very busy these days.  Last week I actually counted how many items I write per month at my “day job” over at Art of Eloquence.com and I shocked myself grapely.  Including blog posts, newsletters, various articles, free gifts for my subsribers, JoJoisms, Visual JoJoisms, FIMM episodes, other YouTube videos and monthly seminars, I was writing and giving away about 70 items per month!  And that didn’t count all of the posts on my FLP and AoE fan pages!

With that many writing assignments/deadlines, it was no wonder I felt as if I was constantly behind schedule writing at all hours of the day and night.  Even worse, it was causing me severe neck, head and back pain to be tied to my computer for so much of the day.  So I have decided that I just have to cut down on some things.

Instead of writing a FLP blog post three times a week, I plan to write every Tuesday concentrating on purple recipes, purple product reviews, purple projects and purple-ized stories.  I will continue to post on the FLP Facebook fan page daily Monday through Friday with grape purple things I find online and our weekly “What is It?” game that I have been posting here.

The next several months will be extremely busy for me as Art of Eloquence begins our new marketing campaign so I’m asking for your grape support.  So many of the FLP Facebook fans have recently helped out by posting their own fabulous purple things and I would love it if you all would continue to share your grape ideas and pictures there.  Also  if any of you have a purple recipe, website, book, product, blog, etc, you know of, please let me know so I can review it here on the FLP blog each week.  If you have one, or know someone who does, post a link to it as a comment here or email me jojo @ fortheloveofpurple .com!

Thank you and have a GRAPE Day!
