Purple Day (March 26th) is an international event that began in 2008 when people around the globe have been encouraged to wear purple and host events in support of epilepsy awareness.
From www.purpleday.org:
“Why Get Involved?
Epilepsy affects over 50 million people worldwide or approximately 1 in 100 people. That’s more than multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and Parkinson’s disease combined.
Help Promote Epilepsy Awareness in Your Community
Wear purple on March 26 and encourage others to do the same. Host a Purple Day party or fundraising event at your home, school or workplace. And most importantly, get real facts about epilepsy by browsing this site and those of our partners. Learn about more ways to get involved and join the campaign in your region.”
My Purple Pledge is a fundraising campaign launched by The National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy (NCYPE). They are asking the public to help raise funds and take a pledge for this worthy cause. Here is a statement from Lisa Farmer, Director of Fundraising at the NCYPE:
“My Purple Pledge is a fun way of generating awareness about a very serious condition. Epilepsy is the most common childhood neurological condition, affecting one in 200 under 18s nationwide. At the NCYPE we provide 24-hour care for many of these young people but like any charity, we need funding support to enable us to help even more. All money raised through My Purple Pledge will be used to provide life-changing support through our special school, college, medical centre and residential homes and help young people with epilepsy across the country to fulfil their potential.”
I’m not associated with either of these sites, but I just wanted to bring the information to you. Please proudly wear your purple today in support of epilepsy awareness and have a grape day!
