Violet Eyes No Longer Smiling

On March 23, 2011, we lost one of the most beautiful actresses of all time, Elizabeth Taylor.  Not only was she a beautiful woman, but she had the most unusual eyes.  They were violet.  Not many people have violet eyes and I’m told her eyes looked blue most of the time, though they had a violet hue to them.

Though known from the time of her youth for this most unusual feature, there are surprisingly few pictures of her that show the true color of her eyes. The problem was that color film wasn’t used as much in her youth and, even most pictures and movies of her are in black and white.

I am surprised, though, that nobody ever took a close up picture of her eyes to show their true color even later in her life.

This picture to the left, I think, is the one that probably captures it best.  I don’t know for sure, but it appears to me that they could be the true color.  They definitely appear violet, but the color doesn’t look to have been colorized.

I also found another picture of her where her eyes appear more purple.  Again, I’m have no idea who took the picture or if this was touched up, but it does have the look of something that could have been retouched.

What do you think of this one?

Growing up as the purple lover I was, I always wished I had her eyes.  Then later on when color contacts came out people would ask me why I never got them in purple.  I supposed I might have done that if I wasn’t so deathly phobic about sticking things in my eyes.  After all, isn’t that the reason God gave us eye lids?

Still, and whether or not these pictures accurately reflect the true color of Elizabeth Taylor’s eyes, I do so love to look at them.

She was a real beauty and a talented actress with a special purple gift.

Do you know anyone with violet eyes?  Have you ever had purple contacts yourself?

Have a GRAPE Day!
